The Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) at Texas A&M University stores and curates on behalf of NSF 151 kilometers of DSDP, ODP, and IODP cores from the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, and the Southern Ocean.

Laboratory Facilities

The GCR infrastructure includes 9,000 square feet of newly renovated instrumented laboratories and 15,000 square feet of refrigerated space. The laboratories contain most of the instruments that were demobilized from the JOIDES Resolution.

Outreach

The GCR hosts tours to promote the educational use of the cores and plans to host annual Cores Schools (CORES) and XRF workshops that will take advantage of the available instruments.

Additional Collections

The GCR houses thin section, smear slide, and residue collections, the San Andreas Fault Observatory at Depth (SAFOD) Core Collection, and the MRC collection. A satellite repository at Rutgers University houses New Jersey/Delaware cores collected on land.
