Policies

GCR Laboratory Work Policy

The GCR Laboratory Work Policy policy outlines the standards, expectations, and procedures for working in the Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) curatorial and analytical facilities to ensure the safety of personnel, integrity of samples, and proper functioning of laboratory equipment. This policy applies to all Scientific Ocean Drilling (SOD) department staff and GCR visitors.

Scientific Ocean Drilling Safety Training Policy

The Scientific Ocean Drilling (SOD) department at Texas A&M University (TAMU) provides laboratory safety training for staff, student workers, student researchers and visitors working in the building, loading dock and Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) laboratories based on their job classifications and duties. The goal of the training is to ensure that SOD employees and visitors gain specific background and expertise to safely perform job duties.

All visitors working in the laboratories must take the online Introduction to Safety Training and be given a Work Area Specific Training by the staff hosting their visit. If they will be working with chemicals (i.e. working in the geochemistry lab), liquid nitrogen or RPD devices, then additional training is required. Please contact your staff host for details on how to complete any required training.
