Accessing Your GCR Data with Globus
The Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) utilizes Globus to grant you near real-time access to your data as it is generated on instruments in the GCR laboratories. Globus is a secure, non-profit platform designed for the fast and reliable transfer of large research datasets. It acts as an orchestrator to manage and schedule data transfers between designated "endpoints" across the internet. Because research data is often large and distributed, Globus allows us to deliver gigabytes or terabytes of data directly to your personal system or institution reliably. More information can be found in Globus FAQs.
How to Create an Account
Accessing your project data collection requires a free Globus account:
- Navigate to globus.org and select Log In.
- Use your institutional login if your organization is a Globus subscriber. Alternatively, you may sign up using an ORCID, Google, or GitHub account or create a basic Globus account.
- Once your account is created, convey your associated email address to our team to finalize your data access.
How to Set Up Globus Connect Personal (GCP)
To batch transfer files directly to your local computer, you must set up a personal endpoint using Globus Connect Personal:
- Download & Install: Visit the Globus Connect Personal page and download the appropriate installer for your operating system (Mac, Windows, or Linux).
- Authentication: Launch the installer, log into your Globus account, and click Allow to grant the necessary permissions.
